Three Belles Named to All-MIAA First Team

ROYAL OAK, Mich. - For the first time in the history of the program, three Saint Mary's soccer players were recognized with All-MIAA First Team honors as announced by the league office today.

Juniors Chanler Rosenbaum, Kerry Green, and Mary Kate Hussey were all voted to the conference's first team by the MIAA coaches for their efforts on the season. Green becomes the first repeat All-MIAA First Team selection in soccer since Ashley Hinton in 2005 and 2006. Hussey and Rosenbaum were both second team honorees a year ago and become the sixth and seventh players in program history to be named All-MIAA First Team. Rosenbaum becomes the first goalkeeper in Saint Mary's soccer history to earn All-MIAA First Team accolades, and it is also the first time that multiple defenders have named to the conference's first team in the history of the program.

The trio of defensive players keyed a Belles side that allowed a goal or less in 11 of the team's 16 conference games during the 2013 season. Additionally, Saint Mary's surrendered two goals or fewer in 14 of their 16 MIAA contests in large part to center defensive backs Green and Hussey and goalkeeper Rosenbaum. The team played in a school-record seven conference overtime contests and posted a 3-1-3 mark in those games. The trio helped the team to a seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3) in conference play which spanned from September 18 to October 14 as well as a four-game winning streak to end the season.

The Saint Mary's defense allowed 75 shots on goal over the 16-game conference season, which averages to less than five shots on goal per contest. Only Calvin (50) and Hope (59) allowed fewer shots on goal while the Belles (1540 minutes and 59 seconds) played more minutes than the Knights (1476:05) or the Flying Dutch (1469:59), respectively.

In terms of geography, Green, Hussey, and Rosenbaum were the only three non-Michigan natives to be named to the All-MIAA First Team in 2013.
