Belles Shut Out Lions
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Rosie Biehl scored two early goals and the Saint Mary's soccer team never looked back on their way to a 3-0 win at the College of Mount St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon.
The Belles pressured the Lions early and often at the onset of the game. On the Belles' first corner kick of the game, Rosie Biehl connected with her first collegiate goal just 1:57 into the contest by sending the corner in for the score.
After a few more offensive opportunities, Biehl stuck again with a goal in the 13th minute of action to give Saint Mary's the early 2-0 lead.
Kelly Wilson added an insurance goal in the opening minutes of the second half on a rebound opportunity to push the Belles' lead to 3-0.
The Belles out-shot the Lions 21-7 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks in the victory.
Natalie Warner pushed aside the lone shot on goal she faced while picking up the win in goal. She and Nicole Papiernik combined for the shutout in goal after Papiernik came in for the final 31 minutes of play.
The Belles (2-2) open conference play on Thursday when they travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Hornets.
