Valencia Collects NSCAA Academic Honor

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Senior midfielder Mollie Valencia was one of only five MIAA women's soccer players to be named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division Women's Scholar All-North/Central Region list.

Valencia was one of 40 midfielders to be selected to the All-North/Central Region Honorable Mention list.

Fewer than 150 student-athletes from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, NCCAA, and Junior College soccer programs in the North and Central Regions were recognized as All-Region Scholars. The North and Central Regions are made up of colleges and universities from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Among the nomination criteria are that a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his/her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member; and be a junior or above in academic standing at the current institution.
