Belles Halted by Scots

ALMA, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team lost a 7-0 final against Alma in conference play on Saturday afternoon.

The host Scots scored four goals in the opening 45 minutes of play and added three additional goals in the second half. Despite the scoreboard, the Belles played a tighter second half than it may initially appear. Saint Mary's cut the Scots' shot total by more than half from the first period (19) to the second (8). Additionally, the Belles drew more fouls from the Scots while conceding fewer corner kicks over the final 45 minutes of play.

Liza Felix and Maggie McLauhlin provided the scoring chances for Saint Mary's against the Scots. Felix fired a shot on goal in the opening seven minutes of the second half and added a second shot on goal in the closing five minutes of play. McLaughlin's strike in the 74th minute of play carried high and away from goal for the Belles.

Rachel McCarthy made nine saves in goal for Saint Mary's on the afternoon.

The Belles (1-8-1, 1-6-1 MIAA) begin their second round of MIAA competition on Wednesday, October 7 when they travel to Albion for a 4:00 p.m. contest against the Britons.
