Belles Fall in Overtime to Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team scored first, but host Adrian put the next two goals on the scoreboard to claim a 2-1 overtime decision over the Belles on Saturday.

Thallia Robles and the Belles defense held the Bulldogs at bay throughout the first period of play. Robles turned aside the first four shots on goal, and the back line pressured the Adrian offense to put the remainder of their shots off goal during the first 45 minutes of play. Mary Wandor had the Belles' first threatening shot of the game with a shot on goal in the 37th minute of play. Two minutes later, Saint Mary's earned a corner kick to set up another scoring chance. Kellen Hinchey took the corner from the left side of the field, and Jennifer Buck connected on a shot off the corner and put the ball in to the left side of the net for the 1-0 Saint Mary's advantage with 6:13 remaining before halftime.

The Bulldogs struck early in the second half of play to knot the score at 1-1. Thallia Robles came up with a save on a header but was unable to stifle the ball completely. An Adrian player followed up the play and put in the rebound to tie the game in the 47th minute of action.

Adrian had the majority of chances over the next 40 minutes of play, but the Belles blocked several shots while Robles continued to come up with key saves to keep the score deadlocked. The best chance for the Belles in the second half came with just over five minutes to go in regulation. Liza Felix fired a shot from inside the box, but her strike went wide right.

In the added period, Robles pushed aside the first shot she saw. The Bulldogs, however, found the back of the net in the 94th minute to take the 2-1 overtime decision.

Jennifer Buck posted her second goal of the season on her lone shot of the day, and Kellen Hinchey collected the assist. Mary Wandor added a shot on goal, and Liza Felix had a shot for the Belles. Thallia Robles made 11 saves.

The Belles (1-16, 0-15 MIAA) conclude their season on Monday when they travel to Alma for a 3:00 p.m. contest against the Scots.
