Belles Stopped in Season Finale

ALMA, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team lost a 4-0 contest at Alma to conclude the 2016 season on Monday afternoon.

The Scots struck early with a goal in the sixth minute. Liza Felix looked for a quick equalizer and put a solid effort on goal in the 12th minute, but the senior's strike was saved to keep the score at 1-0. Alma doubled their lead in the 20th minute and held a 2-0 advantage in the scoring column at the halftime break.

Alma added a third goal early in the second half, but the Belles continued to fight to try to find their way on to the scoreboard. Mary Wandor fired a shot on goal in the 76th minute, and the Alma goalkeeper made the save before the Scots conceded a corner kick. The Belles had a sustained stretch of possession, but Emily Beedie and Bella Wiseman both had shots in the scoring third of the field blocked. After Wiseman's effort was blocked, the Scots scored their fourth goal by quickly switching from defense to offense with a strike less than 20 seconds after the blocked shot at the other end of the field.

Bella Wiseman put a shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the freshman could not find the back of the net for Saint Mary's. The Belles had a pair of chances late after earning consecutive corner kicks in the 88th minute. Both corners, however, did not yield a scoring chance as the game ended 4-0 in favor of the Scots.
