NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's soccer team held visiting Calvin scoreless over the second period of play but came up short in a 3-0 final on Saturday evening.

The Belles had one of their best scoring chances in the sixth minute of play against the Knights. Liza Felix worked her way past a defender on the left side of the field before sending in a dangerous cross into the box toward Bella Wiseman. Before the freshman could meet the pass at the near post, the Calvin goalkeeper came off of her line to intercept the pass and stop the opportunity.

The Knights tallied goals in the 23rd, 24th, and 30th minutes for the 3-0 lead in the opening half. The Belles had a handful of sustained possessions during the first period, but each time, Saint Mary's was a pass or two away from developing the possession into a threatening chance or goal-scoring opportunity as the game went to halftime 3-0 in favor of Calvin.

Saint Mary's had a pair of chances in quick succession in the second half of play. Just as the clock moved below 37 minutes, Mary Wandor made a strong run up the left side of the field to push the ball ahead. She got the edge past her defender and sent a cross into the box toward the near post. That pass, however, was stifled by the Knights' goalkeeper before it could be played on by a teammate. Less than a minute later, Bella Wiseman put the pressure on the defense as Calvin looked to play a ball out of the box. Wiseman forced one of the Knights' center backs to turn the ball over just inside the six-yard box. The freshman hurried to try to toe-poke the ball in as the goalkeeper came off the line to try to breakup the play, but Wiseman's shot carried wide right of the goalpost and out of bounds for a goal kick.

In the 67th minute of play, Emily Rompola played a long pass up through the middle of the defense toward Emma LaBounty. LaBounty sprinted toward the ball for a potential breakaway but was narrowly edged out by one of the last defenders between her and the goal as the Knights cleared the ball out of bounds and away from danger. Saint Mary's earned a corner kick in the 82nd minute of action as the Belles continued to fight to find space to press high against the Knights. Kellen Hinchey sent a promising cross in off the corner kick into the box. After bouncing off of a couple players, Jennifer Buck got a foot on the ball but had her effort blocked just after contact and away from goal.

Bella Wiseman and Jennifer Buck each had a shot to lead Saint Mary's. Thallia Robles made seven saves in goal.

The Belles (1-14-0, 0-13-0 MIAA) travel to Hope on Wednesday, October 26 for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Flying Dutch.
