NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's soccer team (1-12-0, 0-11-0 MIAA) lost an 8-0 conference game against league-leading Kalamazoo at home on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets netted three goals in the opening period and added five in the second half for the 8-0 margin.

The best scoring chance for the Belles during the opening 45 minutes of play came in the 30th minute of play. Callie Doyle made a determined run up the middle of the field with the ball while cutting past several Kalamazoo players. She led Kate Vasile into space along the right side of the field with a well-paced pass. The senior picked up possession and dribbled to the end line before sending a cross into the box near the mouth of the goal. The pass was played away and out of bounds for a Saint Mary's corner kick. The ensuing corner kick by Kellen Hinchey was well-struck, but the Belles were unable to materialize a scoring chance out of the effort.

Saint Mary's had a pair of developing plays which nearly put the Belles on the scoreboard in the second half of play. On a restart of play, Mary Wandor launched a long pass from the center circle into the left side of the Belles' offensive end. The pass was nearly met by Kellen Hinchey, who was making a run into several yards of open space. The pass, however, was just a bit too strong as Hinchey saw a near-breakaway chance roll beyond her reach.

In the 77th minute of play, the Belles had their best chance of the day. Jennie Buck regained possession for Saint Mary's deep in the offensive end along the right end line. After beating her defender, she cut back in toward the middle of the field before playing a ball into the 18-yard box. Ari Arriaga put a touch on the ball near the top of the box before Juliana De Ona redirected the ball in toward goal. Bella Wiseman found the end of that touch and had a shot from less than three-yards away from the goal denied at the last moment.

Bella Wiseman had the Belles' lone shot of the contest - a shot on goal from inside the six-yard box which was saved. Thallia Robles made six saves in goal before Liza Felix came in to finish the final 16 minutes of play while picking up three saves for Saint Mary's.

The Belles (1-12-0, 0-11-0 MIAA) host in-state MIAA rival Trine on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
