NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's soccer team fell in a 4-0 final at home against Trine on Senior Recognition Day on Saturday.

The Thunder posted three goals in the first half and added one goal late in the second half for the final 4-0 scoring margin.

The Belles had several chances in each half of play. In the sixth minute, the Trine goalkeeper turned the ball over directly to Kellen Hinchey near the top of the 18-yard box. The freshman tried to quickly return a shot as the goalkeeper tried to get back to her line, but Hinchey's strike went wide left of its mark. Six minutes later, Emily Rompola found some space in the middle of the offensive end and sent a strong shot toward goal only to see her effort stopped at the goal line. Emma LaBounty won a 50-50 ball and kept possession moving forward deep in the Belles' offensive third of the field before sending in a cross toward the mouth of the goal with just under 27 minutes on the clock. The Thunder goalkeeper came off of her line to intercept the pass before Bella Wiseman could get a near point-blank redirection on the ball. In the 29th minute of action, Callie Doyle cut up the middle of the field before playing a pass ahead toward Wiseman. Again, however, the Trine goalkeeper was quick to break up the pass and keep the Belles off the scoreboard.

Saint Mary's continued to fight and find chances in the second period of play. With 33 minutes on the clock in the second half, Saint Mary's nearly capitalized on a big miscue by the Thunder. The back line for Trine played a pass back toward the goalkeeper, and Bella Wiseman was in quick pursuit of the ball. Her pressure forced the goalkeeper to play the ball out of bounds for a corner kick, but the near-post effort by Emily Beedie on the corner kick was off the mark. Less than five minutes later, Wiseman was in the mix yet again after winning a 50-50 ball off of a short free kick. She carried the ball past a defender and got off a shot inside the 18-yard box only to have it played out by a defender. Two minutes later, Jennie Buck found the ball at her feet with space from 15 yards out along the left side of the field, but her shot had too much side spin as it traveled wide left of the post. Hinchey made a pass ahead into space for Mary Wandor, but the pass was just too strong as the goalkeeper was able to come out and pick up the pass before Wandor could have a chance at a breakaway.

Emily Rompola and Mary Wandor each had a shot on goal. Bella Wiseman, Emily Beedie, and Jennifer Buck each had a shot in the contest. Liza Felix posted six saves in over 70 minutes in goal, and Jordan Marsman closed out the final 19:28 in goal on the day for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (1-13-0, 0-12-0 MIAA) have a week to prepare for their next contest as they host Calvin on Saturday, October 22 at 5:00 p.m.
