Belles Shut Out by Flying Dutch

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's soccer team fell by a 5-0 score to Hope on Saturday afternoon.

The Flying Dutch netted goals in the seventh and eighth minutes of play to take over the momentum early en route to the quick 2-0 lead. Hope added two additional goals in the first half and a goal in the 90th minute for the 5-0 final.

The Belles registered three shots in the opening period of action. Molly Murphy had a strike blocked in the 19th minute. In the waning minutes of the first half, McKenna O'Shea and Kellen Hinchey each tallied a shot as Saint Mary's put some pressure on the Flying Dutch late. O'Shea's shot in the 41st minute sailed wide of the frame. Hinchey's, meanwhile, was saved by the Hope goalkeeper.

Hannah Fisher made seven saves in goal during the first 45 minutes of action while shouldering the goalkeeping loss. Thallia Robles added seven saves in the second half for the Belles.

The Belles (1-14, 0-13 MIAA) return home on Tuesday, October 24 to host Trine at 7:00 p.m.
