Belles Sweep Day Two Competition in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's softball team picked up two more wins on the second day of their spring trip by defeating Geneva (Pa.) 8-3 and Ohio Wesleyan 3-2 on Monday.

In the first game of the day, the Belles had a balanced offensive attack as four members of the team tallied multiple hits. Kristen Nelson led the way with a double and a triple to go along with three RBIs. Victoria Connelly, Angela Gillis, and Kate Mitchell each went 2-for-4 at the plate. Connelly added a stolen base, scored a run, and drove in a run. Gillis laced a double, scored two runs, stole a base, and drove in a run. Mitchell also swiped a base and drove in one for the Belles.

Callie Selner threw all seven innings while allowing five hits, three earned runs, walking two, and striking out six on the way to her second win of the year.

Against the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan, Jordie Wasserman delivered a big punch with a three-run home run for the Belles. Angela Gillis was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles while Lauren Enayati went 2-for-4 with a run scored on Wasserman's home run.

Monica Palicki picked up the win in the circle, allowing two earned runs and striking out four in 4.2 innings of work. Angela Gillis came in in relief in the fifth inning and delivered 2.1 innings of shutout pitching, allowing just one hit and striking out a pair on the way to earning the save.

The Belles (4-0) will take on a pair of opponents from the Empire State on Tuesday as they face Polytechnic Institute of NYU and Mount Saint Mary at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
