FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's softball team opened the 2012 campaign with a pair of wins in the Sunshine State on Sunday. The Belles took a 5-2 decision from Stevens Institute in nine innings before defeating SUNY Potsdam 12-7 later in the afternoon.

After both teams scored a run in the eighth inning, Morgan Bedan had a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to plate Emily Sherwood to put the Belles up 3-2. Callie Selner picked up the win in the circle in game one by going the distance and allowing one earned run, striking out seven, and walking just three. The sophomore also drove in the tying run in the fifth inning on her way to a 3-for-5 effort from the dish with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Belles.

In the second game of the day, the Belles led from start to finish. Saint Mary's plated six runs in the third inning and five more runs in the fifth to lead 11-2. Potsdam notched five runs of their own in the fifth, but the Belles held off the comeback attempt for the 12-7 decision.
