Belles Pick Up Split on Day Two in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Saint Mary's softball team responded after a 4-1 loss to Ohio Wesleyan with a 5-0 win over Franklin & Marshall on the second day of their trip to Florida.

The Battling Bishops broke up a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning with three unearned runs. The Belles got back-to-back one-out singles from Morgan Bedan and Callie Selner and Jillian Busfield was hit by a pitch to load the bases in the top of the sixth to put some pressure on Ohio Wesleyan. Sarah Callis drove in Bedan from third on a sacrifice fly to get the Belles on the scoreboard, but an infield pop up ended the threat.

Ohio Wesleyan added a fourth unearned run in the bottom of the sixth for what proved to be the final 4-1 margin.

Callie Selner threw all six innings without surrendering an earned run on six hits and striking out a pair. She also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bedan, Callis, and Victoria Connelly all added singles for the Belles

Game two was all Saint Mary's as the Belles picked up the 5-0 win over Franklin & Marshall. Saint Mary's held the Diplomats to five hits and only allowed three runners to get into scoring position for Franklin & Marshall. Offensively, the Belles scored a run in the first, third, and fifth innings and added two more insurance runs in the sixth.

Victoria Connelly went 2-for-3 at the dish with two runs scored, a walk, and a double. Morgan Bedan had a double of her own while scoring a run. Callie Selner drove in a run on a double, and Kayla Chapman picked up an RBI and drew a walk while going 1-for-2.

Sarah Burke picked up her first collegiate win and shutout after going the distance. The freshman scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out three.

The Belles (1-3) play Delaware Valley and Richard Stockton at 1 and 3 p.m. in Fort Myers, Florida tomorrow afternoon.
