Trio of Belles Earn All-MIAA Recognition

FREELAND, Mich. - Three members of the Saint Mary's softball team were recognized by league coaches as All-MIAA selections on Monday. Jillian Busfield, Cassie Young, and Jamie Young were named to the All-MIAA Second Team for their efforts in the 2015 season.

three studentsBusfield posted a .341 batting average in league play during her junior season. She had four doubles, scored eight runs, and drove in 11 runs for the Belles. Busfield added a .438 on-base percentage and a .439 slugging percentage.

Cassie Young was tied for the seventh-best batting average in conference play with a .464 average in her freshman season. She was tied for second in the league with hits (26), fifth in runs scored (20), tied for seventh in stolen bases (7), and tied for ninth in RBIs (17).

Jamie Young hit .365 in MIAA games during her freshman season. She was tied for third in runs scored (21) while tallying 19 hits, two doubles, and six runs batted in over the course of 16 games. She also posted a .404 slugging percentage and a .433 on-base percentage.

For Busfield, the All-MIAA honor is the third of her career after being named to the conference's first team in her freshman and sophomore seasons. Cassie and Jamie, meanwhile, become the 28th and 29th players in program history to earn All-MIAA distinction.

It is the ninth time since 1998 in which Saint Mary's has had multiple players named all-conference at the conclusion of the season.
