Belles Sweep Season Opening Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Saint Mary's softball team opened up the 2015 season with a pair of shutout victories in Florida. The Belles defeated Juniata by an 8-0 score in five innings before blanking Finlandia 7-0 in their second game of the day.

In the opener, Sarah Burke and Jessica Alberts combined for the five-inning no-hitter for the Belles in the circle against the Eagles. It marks the first no-hitter for the team since the 2009 season when Angela Gillis threw a no-hitter against Goshen at home. Burke held the Juniata offense at bay for four innings, and Alberts came in to wrap up the no-no with an inning of work in the circle.

Kayla Raymer had a pair of hits which included a double and posted a pair of RBIs for the Belles. Cassie Young and Jamie Young each added two hits in the winning cause.

In game two against the Lions, Morgan Raymer and Mary Green combined for the pitching shutout for Saint Mary's. Raymer went five innings and Green finished the final two innings for the Belles.

Cassie Young added two more hits in the game while Jillian Busfield drove in two runs with a single to left field.

The Belles (2-0) return to play tomorrow morning when they face off against Thiel at 9:00 a.m. and Stockton at 11:00 a.m. in Clermont, Florida.
