Seven Belles Recognized for Academic Achievement

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seven members of the 2014-15 Saint Mary's softball team were named as National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athletes.

Jessica Alberts, Sarah Burke, Sarah Callis, Victoria Connelly, Makenzie Duncan, Mary Green, and Emily Najacht were seven of the 1,018 student-athletes from NCAA Division III to earn the NFCA academic distinction. In order to be named an All-America Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average for the entire academic year.

Connelly was a four-year honoree for the Belles as a double major in music and biology. Burke and Callis added their names to the list for the third consecutive year. Alberts, Duncan, Green, and Najacht, meanwhile, all earned the distinction for their freshman year.

The seven Belles were part of 49 student-athletes from the MIAA to be recognized for the 2014-15 academic year.

Over 5,400 student-athletes from across seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year.
