Cassie Young Named to National Player of the Year Top 25 List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced that Saint Mary's senior outfielder Cassie Young was one of twenty-five student-athletes in contention for the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year.

Young is one of four softball players from the Central region to make the Top 25 listing for the 2018 season. The senior co-captain was part of the initial Top 50 watch list revealed earlier this spring. It is the first time any member of the Saint Mary's softball program has made the Top 25 list.

The Top 25 list is comprised of 12 seniors, eight juniors, three sophomores and two freshmen. Joining Cassie Young on the list from the MIAA are Kaylee Fox and Erica Robles from Trine.

Young currently ranks in the top 20 in all NCAA Division III statistics in batting average, hits, and on-base percentage. Her current marks in RBI and RBI per game are among the top 90 nationally, and the senior ranks in the top 110 of all softball players in Division III in sacrifice flies, sacrifice hits per game, and total bases.

The list will will be reduced to 10 finalists when the All-Region teams are selected in May.
