Belles Defeated by Brits in Opening Dual Meet

ALBION, Mich. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team lost 196-97 to Albion in both teams' first dual meet of the season on Friday night.

Carolyn Neville, Anna Nolan, and Ellie Watson each won individual events for the Belles. Neville was first in the 200 free by more than two seconds with a 2:04.33 and touched the wall first in the 100 free in a time of 57.13. Nolan was the winner in the 50 free with a 26.24, edging out Albion's Rachel Francis by 0.03 of a second. Watson won the 200 individual medley by a three-second margin by posting a time of 2:25.12.

Nolan also finished second in the 100 back in 1:05.07. Liz Palmer and Genevieve Spittler both earned second place finishes for the Belles. Palmer was second in the 500 free in 11:51.46. Spittler touched the wall second in the 200 back with a time of 2:34.32.

Andrea Canacci scored a 189.95 in the one-meter diving, which was good enough for the fifth-best score in program history.

The Belles' 200 medley relay and 400 free relay also earned second place points on the evening.

Saint Mary's will travel to Holland, Michigan tomorrow to take on host Hope and conference foe Alma at 1:00 p.m.
