Belles Fall to Hornets, Knights

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team lost against a pair of conference opponents at Rolfs Aquatic Center on Friday night. The Belles were defeated 186-54 by Calvin and 169-61 to Kalamazoo in MIAA swimming action.

Anna Nolan and Ellie Watson were two of the top point earners for the Belles on the night. Nolan finished third overall in both the 50 free (25.44) and the 100 back. In the backstroke, she finished ahead of all of the Kalamazoo competitors in the event. Her time of 1:04.04 was more than two seconds better than her seeded time in the 100 backstroke. Watson, meanwhile, finished third overall in the 200 free (2:02.43) and the 500 free (5:32.00). The pair helped lead the 200 freestyle relay to a second place finish overall by swimming the first leg (Nolan) and anchor leg (Watson).

Liz Palmer was fourth overall in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 11:55.69 on the night. Andrea Canacci was fifth overall in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events with scores of 167.80 and 166.85, respectively.

The Belles close out the dual meet portion of their season when they host Olivet for a league competition on Saturday, February 2.
