Belles Triumph Against Comets on Senior Day

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's swimming and diving team won 10 of 16 events on their way to a 153-105 MIAA dual meet victory over Olivet on Saturday afternoon.

Andrea Canacci won both diving events while setting new top-five all-time scores. The freshman has the fifth-highest score for 1 meter diving (6 dives) in Saint Mary's history after a 196.88 performance. Later in the meet, she set the second-highest score for 3 meter diving (6 dives) with a 228.75.

Ellie Watson and Carolyn Neville each finished first in a pair of individual events on the day as well to help pace the Belles. Watson finished first in both the 200 butterfly (2:20.42) and the 500 free (5:31.72). Her time in the 200 butterfly was good enough for the fifth-fastest time in program history by one one-hundredth of a second. Neville won both the 200 free (2:03.45) and 200 individual medley (2:24.62). The two, along with Anna Nolan and Sarah Thompson, led the Belles' 200 freestyle A relay group to a first place finish in the final event of the day.

Megan Knobloch, Liz Litke, and Anna Nolan each added a win in an individual event on the day. Knobloch was the winner in the 100 back by a four-tenths of a second margin with a time of 1:07.59. Litke held off a late push by her Olivet counterpart in the 100 breaststroke for a victory by three-tenths of a second in 1:18.12. Nolan edged out her win in the 50 free by two one-hundredths of a second with a 25.45.

A successful Senior Recognition Day, each of the five members of the Class of 2013 on the team scored points in the win.

The Belles will prepare for the MIAA Championship meet, which takes place February 13-16 at Jenison High School.
