Belles Conclude MIAA Flighted Tournament

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team wrapped up a competitive MIAA Flighted Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

In the A singles flight, Mary Catherine Faller battled through the consolation round to win the bracket with victories over Alma's Katie Meloche (6-0, 6-2) and Kalamazoo's Jenna Riehl (6-2, 6-3).

In the B singles flight, Shannon Elliott made her way into the final match of the consolation bracket with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Trine's Susan Breinling, but fell in the final match in a tiebreaker by a 6-2, 6-7(9), 10-8 score to Kalamazoo's Ania Latala.

Maddy Gibbs dropped her opening match in the C singles flight consolation bracket with a 6-0, 6-2 decision against Alma's Tara Patton.

Shannon Elliott and Shannon Golden fell in the semifinal of the A doubles flight by an 8-0 score to Albion's Irene Chen and Marissa Cloutier. Mary Catherine Faller and Kayle Sexton had a similar result in their A doubles semifinal as they were on the wrong side of an 8-3 decision against eventual champions Katie Clark and Sarah Woods from Kalamazoo.

In the B doubles flight, Maddy Gibbs and Sarah Monte were 9-7 winners over Alma's Karli Henning and Lauren Moreau to earn a spot in the final of the consolation bracket. Likewise, Margaret Boden and Margaret Faller won 8-1 against Kalamazoo's Jennifer Bageris and Elizabeth Tyburski to take the other final spot in the consolation bracket. In the all-Saint Mary's final, Boden and Faller claimed the 8-3 decision over Gibbs and Monte.

The Belles will resume competitive play in the Spring 2013 season when they travel to Case Western in February.
