Belles Top Comets for First Conference Win

• The Belles won two doubles matches and five singles matches.
• Margaret Faller and Maddie Minaudo helped set the tone with an 8-5 doubles win.
• Kaity Venters, Margaret Faller, and Monica Davy all had tight wins.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team earned a 7-2 win over Olivet for the Belles' first conference win on Friday.

Margaret Faller and Maddie Minaudo picked up an 8-5 win at two doubles, and Kaity Venters and Abbi Fleming outlasted their opponents to a 9-7 victory at three doubles. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad fell in an 8-5 final at one doubles as the Belles took a 2-1 lead going into singles play.

Elizabeth Preister cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at six singles. Kaity Venters won her first set 6-2 before out-dueling her counterpart in a 7-6 (8-6) second set for the win at five singles. Maddie Minaudo picked up a 6-3, 6-2 decision at four singles. Margaret Faller bounced back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to take the second and third sets by matching 6-3 scores for the three singles victory. Sam Setterblad fell in a 6-2, 6-4 final at two singles. Monica Davy was victorious in a marathon match at one singles. The freshman won the first set in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-5) before falling 6-4 in the second set. With the match already decided, she emerged with the win with an 11-9 final in the super tiebreaker to cap off the 7-2 team win.

The Belles (8-3, 1-0 MIAA) return to conference play on Saturday, April 9 when they host Hope at 1:00 p.m.
