Belles Take Down Pilots

  • The Belles won two of the three doubles matches and five of six singles competitions.

GRANGER, Ind. - The Saint Mary's tennis team claimed a 7-2 victory over cross-town rival Bethel at the Knollwood Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

The Belles took two of three doubles matches to gain an early lead against the Pilots. Maddie Minaudo and Elizabeth Preister were unstoppable in an 8-0 three doubles victory. Kaity Venters and Meaghan Flynn picked up an 8-4 win at the two doubles flight. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad were edged out by the minimum two games in an 8-6 setback at one doubles.

Preister went on to win 6-0, 6-1 at six singles, and Minaudo earned a 6-1, 6-2 decision at five singles. Monica Davy came out on top in a 6-2, 6-4 win at one singles, and Meaghan Flynn prevailed in a 6-3, 6-4 four singles final. Sam Setterblad had a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win at three singles on the night. Kelsey Kopf fell short in a tight 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) final at two singles.

The Belles (6-9) open conference competition on Thursday, April 6 when they host Trine at 4:00 p.m.
