Belles Edge Out Eagles

ELGIN, Ill. - The Saint Mary's tennis team closed out their fall season with a 5-4 win over Judson on Friday night.

The Belles claimed a 2-1 lead through the completion of doubles. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad battled to an 8-6 win at one doubles. Kaity Venters and Abbi Fleming earned a matching 8-6 decision at three doubles. Meaghan Flynn and Kelsey Kopf ended on the short side of an 8-6 final at two doubles.

Kelsey Kopf bounced right back with a 6-2, 6-2 win at three singles. Monica Davy was trailing 7-5 in her third-set tiebreaker before rattling off five consecutive points to claim a one singles win by 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) score. Meaghan Flynn clinched the team victory with a well-fought 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at five singles. Sam Setterblad fell in tight a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) two singles competition. Abbi Fleming had similarly-close four singles match and was stopped short 2-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (10-4). Bailey Oppman suffered a 6-4, 7-5 setback at six singles.

Elizabeth Preister picked up an 8-6 exhibition win at seven singles on the night.

The Belles return to competition in February.
