Belles Stopped by Battling Bishops

• Kelsey Kopf and Maddie Minaudo earned an 8-0 win at three doubles.
• Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad were 8-5 winners at one doubles.
• Elizabeth Preister picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at five singles.

DELAWARE, Ohio - The Saint Mary's tennis team fell by a 6-3 final score against Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon.

Kelsey Kopf and Maddie Minaudo did not drop a game in a big 8-0 victory at three doubles. Monica Davy and Sam Setterblad were strong in a well-earned 8-5 win at one doubles for the Belles. Meaghan Flynn and Kaity Venters suffered an 8-1 setback at two doubles as Saint Mary's carried the 2-1 lead going into singles.

The Battling Bishops were strong from the top to bottom of their singles lineup as Ohio Wesleyan won five of the six flights. Elizbeth Preister claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win at five singles for the Belles' decision in the second round of competitions. Venters was denied a big comeback at six singles as the senior rallied from a 6-1 opening-set loss to claim a 6-2 second set win before falling 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Maddie Minaudo had a tight match at four singles but came up short in a 6-4, 6-2 final.

Monica Davy faced off against a regionally-ranked counterpart at one singles. The sophomore got stronger as the match progressed but ended on the short end of a 6-0, 6-3 final. Kelsey Kopf fell in a 6-0, 6-0 match at two singles, and Meaghan Flynn had a 6-1, 6-0 setback at three singles.

The Belles (3-2) return home to host Aquinas on Saturday, February 25 at the University of Notre Dame Eck tennis Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
