Belles Stopped by Saints

• Megan Davy earned a comeback win at three singles in a 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory.
• Maddie Minaudo had a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 win at six singles.
• Lilly Chamberlin fell in a tiebreaker at five singles

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Saint Mary's tennis team suffered a 7-2 setback against Aquinas in their spring opener on Saturday at MVP Sportsplex.

The Saints gained a 3-0 lead through the completion of doubles play. Elizabeth Preister and Kelsey Kopf were narrowly edged out in an 8-5 final at three doubles. Megan Davy and Monica Davy fell in an 8-4 final at one doubles. Maddie Minaudo and Lilly Chamberlin had an 8-3 setback at two doubles.

Christina Lombardi and Monica Davy were out-dueled in 6-1, 6-1 finals at one and two singles, respectively. Megan Davy put the Belles in the scoring column with a hard-fought 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) victory at three singles. Kelsey Kopf came up on the short end of a 6-1, 6-2 match at four singles. Lilly Chamberlin battled back to force a tiebreaker at five singles before being defeated 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5). Maddie Minaudo earned a straight-set 6-3, 6-3 win at six singles.

In exhibition play, the duo of Nicole Becker and Lily Brandt picked up a 9-7 win at four doubles. Elizabeth Preister had a 9-7 seven singles win while Brandt came up just short in an 8-6 match at eight singles.

The Belles (0-2) are back in action on Saturday, February 17 when they host both Wittenberg and Saint Francis (Ind.) at Eastlake Athletic Club in Elkhart.
