Belles Bitten by Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-15) loss by Adrian on the road Wednesday evening.

The host Bulldogs broke a 6-6 tie in the first set with a six-point run to go up 12-6. The Belles took two points back on consecutive errors by Adrian, but Saint Mary's was unable to get within four points of the lead as Adrian took the opener 25-14. Trailing by six points in the second set, the Belles refused to go down quietly in the stanza. Saint Mary's erased a 19-13 deficit to knot the set up at 20-20. After leading 22-21 on a kill, the Bulldogs got back-to-back service aces to go up 24-21 before ultimately taking the set 25-22.

The third set was similar to the first in that the Bulldogs turned a 5-4 advantage into a 10-5 lead. Allison Zandarski had a kill followed up by an ace by Stephanie Bodien to make the third set 10-7, but Adrian would go on an eight-point run later in the set to put things out of reach for Saint Mary's.

Stephanie Bodien had a team-best seven kills while Christi Wyble hit .500 with six kills and one error on just ten attempts to go along with a match-high five blocks. Allison Zandarski and Kati Schneider each chipped in five kills for Saint Mary's. Danie Brink tallied a match-high 19 assists for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (7-17, 5-10 MIAA) will travel to Albion for their season finale on Friday, October 28 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
