Belles Fall Twice at UW-Oshkosh, Brink Named All-Tournament

OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-20) to Gustavus Adolphus in their first set of the day before being defeated by Central (Iowa) 3-1 (25-16, 25-27, 25-13, 25-18) in the second day of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday.

Allison Zandarski had a team-best 10 kills with just two errors on 20 swings in the opener against Gustavus Adolphus. Annie Bodien added 12 digs and an ace while Danie Brink had 25 assists, three kills, and 13 digs for the Belles.

Against Central, Christi Wyble hit .333 again with five kills on 15 attempts with no errors while also chipping in a block assist. Brooke Fowler had a team-high eight kills along with four digs. Kati Schneider added six kills while Samantha Grady had five kills of her own. Meghann Rose led the Belles with 22 digs. Annie Bodien, meanwhile, had 22 assists, 20 digs, and two kills. Meredith Mersits was also solid on defense with 17 digs for the Belles.

At the conclusion of the tournament, setter Danie Brink was one of ten players from the six teams involved in the invitational to be named to the all-tournament team. It is her first all-tournament team honor since the MIT tournament her freshman season.

The Belles (7-13, 5-6 MIAA) will return to MIAA play this week when they travel to Alma for a 7:00 p.m. match against the Scots on Tuesday, October 18.
