Belles Sunk by Flying Dutch

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-11) loss to #13 ranked Hope on Friday night.

The Belles were able to wipe away a 4-1 deficit in the opening set to knot the game at 5-5. After Hope took back the lead, Saint Mary's got within a pair of the Flying Dutch on a Kati Schneider kill to trail 12-10. Hope, however, would score eight of the next nine points on their way to the first set win.

The Flying Dutch came out clicking on offense as they hit .324 in the first set while the Belles had five kills and five errors on 31 swings. For the match, Saint Mary's would hit -.105 with 14 kills, 24 errors, and 95 attempts. Hope would hit .258 on 35 kills, 12 errors, and 89 attempts.

Emily Getz and Stephanie Bodien led Saint Mary's with three kills while four other players added multiple kills on the night. Meghann Rose shared match-high honors with 15 digs for the Belles while also notching a service ace.

The Belles (3-7, 2-4 MIAA) will have two chances to get back into the win column tomorrow when they host a triangular with conference foe Adrian and HCAC member Manchester beginning at noon.
