Belles Stopped by Hornets

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team had their three match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 27-25, 25-16) loss to Kalamazoo on Friday night.

In the first set, the Belles battled back from an early deficit to tie the contest 16-16. Kalamazoo responded with the next nine points in-a-row to take the opener 25-16. Saint Mary's held off a Kalamazoo rally in the second set with a 25-18. The Belles yet again staged a come-back in the third set, recovering from a six-point hole to knot the contest at 17-17. The set went back-and-forth in the set, but Kalamazoo was able to clutch the momentum and take the 27-25 win. That decision in the third set propelled Kalamazoo to the four-set victory with a 25-16 win in the fourth.

Kati Schneider had a match-high 15 kills for the Belles in the loss. Stephanie Bodien had a double-double for Saint Mary's with 12 kills and 16 digs. Allison Zandarski was a force at the net with six total blocks, which included a solo block. Danie Brink chipped in 31 assists for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (6-8, 4-5 MIAA) will have a quick turn around for their next conference match when they travel to top-ranked Calvin for a noon contest against the Knights.
