Belles Defeated by Bulldogs

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-22, 25-19) on the road to conference foe Adrian on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs used a late 8-0 run to take the opening set in the match. The second set saw the Belles use a big run to put the set away early. Tied 8-8, Saint Mary's scored the next 14 points in-a-row to go up 22-8 on their way to the second set win.

The Belles battled back from an early 6-1 deficit to tie the third set 15-15. Saint Mary's took a two-point lead at 20-18, but the Bulldogs pushed the set to 22-22. Adrian pushed ahead with a kill and an ace before closing out the set with a block. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set as they led from start to finish. The Belles made a big push midway through the set to get within 17-14, but the comeback effort came up short.

Katie Hecklinski led the Belles with 16 kills to go along with 12 digs on the night. Melanie Kuczek and Kati Schneider each added nine kills of their own, and Kuczek had a match-best five aces. Meredith Mersits had a match-high 16 digs for Saint Mary's. Danie Brink added 29 assists while Abby White chipped in 12 assists for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (11-10, 6-5 MIAA) will travel to Kalamazoo on Friday for a conference tilt agains the Hornets at 6:30 p.m.
