Belles Swept by No. 2 Knights

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) to second-ranked Calvin on Wednesday evening.

The visiting Knights opened the match with five of the first six points of the contest. The Belles kept within a pair of points of the Calvin lead until a six-point run turned a 15-13 score into a 21-13 advantage for the Knights.

In the second set, the score was tied on 15 different occasions as both teams battled back and forth for the lead. The Belles held two-point leads at 15-13, 17-15, 18-16, and 19-17, but a late attack error and a kill by the Knights gave Calvin a 24-22 advantage that could not be overtaken by Saint Mary's.

Calvin used a pair of four-point runs in the third set to gain a 22-15 lead while registering five blocks to take the three-set sweep.

Katie Hecklinski led the Belles with 11 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Kati Schneider added 10 kills and seven digs. Danie Brink had 29 assists on the night for the Belles.

Saint Mary's (8-7, 4-3 MIAA) will have a break until next Tuesday, October 2 when they travel to No. 4 ranked Hope for a conference match beginning at 7:00 p.m.
