Belles Swept by Dominican, #16 Carthage

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team was swept 3-0 by Dominican and No. 16 Carthage in day one of play at Carthage's Women's Volleyball Invitational on Friday.

The Belles were on the wrong side of a 25-15, 25-16, 26-24 contest against Dominican, and the 16th ranked Lady Reds were too strong in a 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 contest later in the evening.

Kati Schneider had a combined nine kills and 10 digs with a pair of aces against Dominican. Taylor Etzell added six kills and two blocks. Melanie Kuczek accounted for four kills, six digs, and two blocks, and Danie Brink had 22 assists to go along with five digs and two aces.

In the match against host #16 Carthage, Katie Hecklinski led the Belles with six kills and 13 digs. Kati Schneider and Melanie Kuczek both added five kills while Taylor Etzell notched four kills. Danie Brink added 21 assists to her season total while Meredith Mersits had eight digs and an ace.

The Belles (6-3) will take on Illinois Wesleyan and #13 University of Chicago in day two of the tournament on Saturday.
