Belles Downed by No. 4 Flying Dutch

HOLLAND, Mich. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team was defeated by No. 4 Hope, 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-23) on Tuesday evening.

After the Flying Dutch came out and claimed a quick opening set win, the Belles gave Hope more than a handful the rest of the way in the match. Trailing 18-13 in the third set, Saint Mary's took three of the next four points to pull within 19-16 of Hope. A few points later, the Belles went on a four-point run and won six of seven consecutive points to push the set to 24-23 before the Flying Dutch ended the match with only their second block of the match.

Melanie Kuczek hit .471 for the Belles with eight kills on 17 attempts. Kati Schneider had a team-best nine kills. Danie Brink tallied 24 assists, and Katie Hecklinski led Saint Mary's with eight digs on the night.

Saint Mary's (8-8, 4-4 MIAA) will take on in-state MIAA rival Trine at home on Friday night beginning at 7:00 p.m.
