Belles Swept by Top-Ranked Knights

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team was swept by No. 1 ranked Calvin on Saturday by 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 scores.

With an early five-point run, the Knights gained a 9-3 lead in the first set. Calvin hit .462 in the set to the Belles' .031 attack percentage.

In the second set, Saint Mary's broke a 5-5 tie with four consecutive points to take a 9-5 lead and force Calvin into taking a timeout. After that break, the Knights won 10 of the next 12 points to go up 15-11. Calvin then distanced themselves with a six-point spurt to lead 21-12 before claiming the set.

The Belles again came out strong in the third set and staked claim to a 4-1 lead. The set was tied at 4-4 and 6-6, but Calvin used a five-point run to take command of the set on their way to the sweep.

Kati Schneider led all players in the game with 15 kills while also adding 10 digs for her ninth double-double of the year. Clare McMillan had 24 assists, and Meredith Mersits notched 10 digs for the Belles.

Saint Mary's takes a break from conference play as they host Manchester on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m.
