Belles Fall Short at Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio - The Saint Mary's volleyball team held their own but ended on the wrong side of a pair of matches against tough competition in day two of the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday.

The Belles lost 3-0 (25-22, 30-28, 25-22) to a Heidelberg program that has made the last six NCAA tournaments in-a-row in the morning match before falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) to DePauw.

Against the Student Princes in the opener, Kati Schneider had a team-high 15 kills while also sharing team-best honors in digs with 13. Katie Hecklinski also added 13 digs, and Samantha Grady tallied 12 digs in the loss. Clare McMillan dished out 26 assists with 10 digs for the Belles.

In the match against DePauw, Schneider, Melanie Kuczek, and Brooke Folwer were tough to stop. Schneider added nine more kills while hitting .360, Kuczek had eight kills with a .368 attack percentage, and Fowler notched six kills on her way to hitting .417. Schneider also chipped in 13 digs while Meredith Mersits led all players with 16 digs. McMillan posted 22 assists for the Belles against the Tigers.

Melanie Kuczek was named to the all-tournament team at the conclusion of play on Saturday.

Saint Mary's (1-3) opens conference play on Tuesday, September 3 as they travel to Kalamazoo to take on the Hornets at 7:00 p.m.
