  • The Belles had better than a 3.45 cumulative GPA.
  • Eight total MIAA teams were honored with the award this year.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Saint Mary's volleyball team notched a 3.457 cumulative grade point average on their way to earning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 2015-16 Team Academic Award.

The award was initiated by the AVCA in the 1992-93 academic year and honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year. In order to earn recognition, a team must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.

The Belles were one of 140 NCAA Division III women's programs to earn the distinction for 2015-16 while 762 teams collected the honor at all levels - NCAA, NAIA, junior college, NCCAA, and high school - for the past academic year. It is the sixth consecutive year the team has been recognized by the AVCA for their performance in the classroom.

Saint Mary's was one of eight MIAA member schools to be recognized with AVCA Team Academic Award honors for the past academic year. For the full list of honorees, visit the AVCA website here.
