"A day of just leadership is better than 60 years of worship."

Dr. Ala-Uddin is a scholar of global communication, digital media, and social change whose work examines how emerging technologies reshape communicative power, public discourse, and democratic life. His research focuses on the communicative dimensions of digital systems—particularly artificial intelligence, platform governance, and media infrastructures—in both Global North and Global South contexts. He is especially interested in how technological systems expand or constrain voice, participation, and equity in contemporary societies.

His work bridges critical and computational approaches, combining interpretive analysis with algorithmic techniques (e.g., NLP) to study media narratives, policy discourses, and digital practices. Across his research, he is guided by a broader concern with communication as a condition of freedom, asking how media systems enable or limit the democratic capabilities of individuals and communities to be heard, represented, and recognized.

In the classroom, Dr. Ala-Uddin advances dialogue, critical inquiry, and applied learning. He encourages students to engage with communication not only as a field of study but as a practical and ethical force shaping everyday life. His teaching integrates contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, misinformation, and global media inequalities, helping students develop analytical, reflective, and responsible communication practices.
