Belles Fall in Nailbiter to Owls

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Saint Mary's lacrosse team suffered an 11-10 setback against Bryn Mawr in the team's final game of their spring break trip to South Carolina on Wednesday.

After trailing 6-4 at halftime, the Belles made a strong comeback in the second period and tied the score at 10-10 on a goal by Molly Stout with just over six minutes remaining. The Owls, however, notched the game-winner on a free position effort with 2:10 to go for the 11-10 decision.

Clare Theisen and Emilie Vanneste each scored three goals to help lead the Belles. Hanna Makowski added two goals, and Molly Stout and Kate Kelly each tallied a goal. Stout also picked up a pair of assists.

Caleigh Gainey paced the Saint Mary's defensive efforts with five caused turnovers while Katlynn Dee added four caused turnovers. Vanneste and Kelly each had four ground balls and three draw controls. Shannon Weyer made six saves in goal, and Cara Givens registered three saves.

The Belles (1-2) travel to Concordia Chicago on Wednesday, March 16 for a 5:00 p.m. CDT contest.
