Megan Zwart Named Provost and Vice President

Zwart Headshot 2024.jpgDr. Megan Halteman Zwart will transition to the role of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on June 1, 2025.

Zwart has extensive knowledge of the Saint Mary's community. She currently serves as Interim Provost, but before moving into this role, she spent 16 years as a professor in the Philosophy department, where she taught courses in ethics and the history of philosophy. One of her favorite classes to teach was Dialogue and Civil Discourse, which helps students develop the skills to have productive conversations—even with those who see the world differently. This year, she collaborated with College leadership to incorporate this commitment to dialogue into the Avenue Experience for all Saint Mary’s students and into the faculty development offered to first-year seminar instructors.

Zwart received her bachelor’s degree from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, MI) and her PhD from the University of Notre Dame. She founded and directed The Dialogue Project, a collection of programs supporting dialogue across differences at the College, including a student leadership program and a high school summer institute. Zwart's work on dialogue has been published in America magazine, Inside Higher Ed, the Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the Journal of Moral Theology
