Trustey Trail Groundbreaking Celebrates Vision for a More Connected Campus
By MARIANA TASKEY ’25
Ground was broken on a new wellness loop during Reunion weekend on June 5, marking the beginning of a transformative project designed to advance wellness, safety, and community at Saint Mary’s College.

One of Saint Mary’s greatest assets is the natural beauty throughout campus. Thanks to a generous $4 million gift from Kristine Anderson Trustey ’86 and her husband, Sean McGraw, that landscape will soon feature the Trustey Trail wellness loop.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together alumnae, campus leaders, and friends of the College to celebrate the project and reflect on the relationships that inspired it. During her remarks, Trustey spoke about the enduring bonds she formed at Saint Mary’s.
Trustey reflected on how the friendships she formed as a student became a source of strength throughout her life. Thirteen of these friends who met during their first year at Saint Mary’s in Regina Hall, continue to gather together every year since graduation.
“This gift of friendship does not show up on diplomas,” she said. “This incredible group of women who started as friends back in 1982 have become family over the ensuing years.”
Designed to foster connection, movement, and reflection, the Trustey Trail will create new opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumnae, and visitors to engage with campus in meaningful ways. Prayer nodes placed along the path will offer quiet spaces for rest and meditation, while a dedicated fitness node will encourage outdoor activity and wellness.
Trustey explains “To me, this trail that is being built, represents mind, body, and spirit with its peaceful yet active location, its fitness area, and its prayer nodes. This trail wraps around campus and embraces us, just as Saint Mary's embraced us when we arrived as young freshmen.”
The Trustey Trail also reflects Saint Mary’s long-term vision for a more walkable and pedestrian-friendly campus. First outlined in the College’s 2016 Facilities Master Plan and later incorporated into Revere and Revise: Saint Mary’s College 2030, the project supports a future centered on community, accessibility, and well-being.
Through Trustey and McGraw’s generosity and commitment to Saint Mary’s, this vision is becoming a reality. Once completed, the wellness loop will enhance campus safety, strengthen connections across campus, and celebrate the beauty that makes Saint Mary’s unique.
The Trustey Trail is expected to be completed this November.
