January 1, 2013 Coaches working to "Play Like a Champion" (WNDU-TV) A coach takes on many roles for athletes - parental figure, confidant, and disciplinarian. But, there is a thin line between giving teenager guidance and abusing the role. This summer coaches from across the country attended "Play Like a Champion" training at Notre Dame. Interviewed for this story was Erin Sullivan, assistant athletic director and softball coach at Saint Mary's. Francine Henley, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Coordinator at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, will offer a presentation titled “An Overview of Medical and Forensic Examinations” on Tuesday, February 19 at 6 p.m. in Vander Vennet Theatre. January 1, 2013 “Love Your Body Week" Focuses on Positive Female Body Image Saint Mary’s College students will mark National Eating Disorder Week with “Love Your Body Week,” February 20-24. This year’s theme is “everyBODY is…,” a phrase which can be completed using any individual’s definition of beauty. The goal of the week, held at this women’s college, is for women to learn to love their bodies and eliminate negative stereotypes, especially those that come from the media. January 1, 2013 Faller Named to All-MIAA First Team ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Saint Mary's junior tennis player Mary Catherine Faller was named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association all-conference first team as selected by league coaches. January 1, 2013 Communication Studies Professor on Online Relationships (Fox 28) The subject of online relationships have been in the news a lot this week. Jenny Armentrout, visiting assistant professor of communication studies whose expertise includes social media communication, sorts out how people who meet and communicate almost exclusively online may feel they are in legitimate relationships. January 1, 2013 "Singing Up a Storm!” to Feature Weather-inspired Music The South Bend Chamber Singers are proud to bring Singing Up a Storm! to the South Bend Christian Reformed Church, 1855 N. Hickory Road, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3. The Euclid String Quartet and the Chamber Children’s Choir will join the Chamber Singers in a concert filled with meteorological music, or music about the weather. WNDU weather forecaster Gary Sieber will act as narrator for the event. January 1, 2013 Dedication Recital for Steinway Piano Gift Saint Mary’s College is pleased to announce the gift of a Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano to the College’s Department of Music by Louise E. Addicott and Yatish J. Joshi to honor their daughter Georgina. To celebrate, Saint Mary’s College will host a dedicatory recital introducing the piano to the community. Performing will be music professor and concert pianist Jeffrey Jacob. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 in Little Theatre of Moreau Center for the Arts. The event is open to the public and free of charge. A reception will follow the event. Joshi is expected to attend.
