Child Care Providers as Business Owners Focus of Latina Conference 201...
The Saint Mary’s College Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), in partnership with the Indiana Association for Child Care Resource and Referral (IACCRR), will host Latina Conference 2012: Developing a Better Future on Saturday, September 29. This year’s event will be presented in Spanish and is intended for Latina daycare providers.

Title IX Turns 40; What It Has Meant to Women (Fox 28)
June 23 was the 40th anniversary of Title IX, which forbids discrimination in educational activities, eventually including sports, on the basis of gender. What better place than the all-women’s Saint Mary’s College for this story? Athletic Director Julie Schroeder-Biek, a native of Mishawaka and a Saint Mary's alumna, was interviewed about how Title IX has impacted her life.

Friends Remember Ziqi Zhang '15 (The Observer)
Ziqi Zhang '15, 19, died Thursday evening from injuries sustained in an accident between her bike and an SUV outside the entrance to Saint Mary’s on State Route 933. In this article in the student newspaper The Observer, her friends share memories of a young woman who was not only a genius, but a joy to be around. One friend says, "I found her attitude and outlook on life completely inspiring. Having her as a friend changed me and made me a much better person."

Food Day-inspired meals, documentary screening, panel discussion
Food Day at the College will include special lunch and dinner menus featuring organic and vegetarian recipes by world-renowned chefs, such as Emeril Lagasse and Jamie Oliver, who support the Food Day initiative. The public is invited to attend a free screening of the food documentary “Forks over Knives” and a panel discussion led by faculty and students.

Saint Mary’s Receives 6th Volume of Bible
Saint Mary’s College has received Volume 6, Gospels and Acts, of the rare Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible. The College now has six of the seven-volume set. Volume 6 contains the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John and the Acts of the Apostles. Volume 7, Letters and Revelation, will arrive later. The six volumes are on display at the Cushwa-Leighton Library at Saint Mary's College.

Students Receive Grant to Curb Teenage Sexual Harassment
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that two students received a Campus Action Project (CAP) grant through the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to start a program addressing teenage sexual harassment. Catherine (Cat) Cleary ’12 and Laura Corrigan ’13 will use the $3,900 grant to develop “Use Your Voice”, a program they created and plan to introduce to area high schools in the spring of 2012.

Hobson to Deliver Commencement Address (Crain's Chicago Business)
Mellody Hobson, president of Chicago-based Ariel Investments LLC, will deliver the Commencement Address at Saint Mary's College. The president of Chicago-based Ariel Investments is a product of the Ivy League — earning a B.A. from Princeton University — but she is also a Catholic school girl at heart, having graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep School in the South Loop.
