International Education/Modern Languages Week Plans Announced
The Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) and the Department of Modern Languages at Saint Mary’s College will host International Education/Modern Languages Week starting on Monday, November 14. Students, faculty members, and invited guests will participate in various events throughout the week. The public is invited to attend.

Students Organize “Hunger Banquet” to Teach Lessons on Poverty and...
The Hunger Banquet is no ordinary dinner. When students, faculty, and staff walk through the doors, they draw slips of paper that give each of them a role to play. One person could be a millionaire, and another could be a single parent working three jobs and barely able to make rent. The participant’s role determines what and how much food is placed on his or her plate. The banquet gives participants the opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes and discuss issues related to hunger in third-world countries and in the United States.

Saint Mary's Sponsors Holy Cross Harvest for Local Food Bank (The Obse...
The Office for Civic and Social Engagement (OCSE) kicked off the second annual Holy Cross Harvest, a large-scale donation drive to benefit the Northern Indiana Food Bank, this week. "It is important to remember that hunger is very real in our area and many families are struggling. It is our responsibility to act," Carrie Call, OCSE's director, told the student newspaper The Observer.

Political science professor Sean Savage was a featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio program The Jim Bohannon Show on the Westwood One radio network. He spoke about the Republican presidential candidate race heating up with a debate in New Hampshire Tuesday and other developments this week.

Tragicomedy “Eurydice” to be Performed
This month, the Saint Mary’s College Theater Program will present “Eurydice,” a comic, modern re-crafting of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice by playwright Sarah Ruhl. A cast of mostly Saint Mary’s College students will perform the play in Little Theater of the Moreau Center for the Arts at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday, November 10–12, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 13.

Women's Entrepreneurship Initiative to Host Year-End, Tax-Planning Sem...
The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) at Saint Mary’s College will host a year-end, tax-planning seminar for women business owner/operators in the community on Friday, December 9. The event, titled “Ask a CPA: Is it Time for QB YET? QuickBooks Year End Tasks”, will be held from 8 to 10 a.m. in Vander Vennet Theatre in the Student Center.

Communication studies professor on "Occupy" movement (Fox 28)
Michael Kramer, associate professor of communication studies whose expertise is political communication, is interviewed about the "Occupy Wall Street" political movement that is sweeping the country, even coming to South Bend. While it has gotten off the ground pretty quickly, Kramer says this isn't the first time in history we've seen movements like this.

Political Science Professor on GOP Race and Iowa Caucus (WSBT-AM)
The 2012 Iowa Caucus is January 3. With less than a month to go, Newt Gingrich is doing well in the polls and leading the GOP presidential race. Candidate Mitt Romney is not to be discounted though. The Iowa Caucus is historically the first in the nation, to be followed a week later by the New Hampshire Primary. Political science professor Sean Savage has analysis of the candidates.

Students Host 'Winter Wonderland' for Kids (South Bend Tribune photos)
On Saturday the Saint Mary’s College’s Student Activities Board (SAB) hosted its second annual Winter Wonderland party for area children. SAB, which is made up of various student clubs, invited children ages 5-12 from South Bend’s Center for the Homeless, Hope Ministries, and Coquillard Primary Center, a Title 1 school with which the College partners. Children of Saint Mary’s College faculty and staff were also invited. The South Bend Tribune posted a photo gallery from the event.
