Last week may have been Saint Mary's Commencement, but the Saint Mary's Golf Team had their own milestones to achieve. They headed to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

It was a trip that sophomore Emily Gore calls “the experience of a lifetime.” The math and mechanical engineering major is in her second year on the golf team. “What I love most about playing golf for Saint Mary's would have to be the people I meet and the amazing courses we get to play,” says Emily. “When you begin playing your tournament round with three strangers from different schools, after five or six hours of walking together, they become your friends.”

The Saint Mary's squad finished their season by winning the spring Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) NCAA qualifying rounds by 11 strokes over fall MIAA champion Olivet College. Saint Mary's was one of 21 teams competing in the Championships in Florida.

On the last day of tournament play Emily shot a 77, which included back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. She tied for 17th place with a four-day total of 322. The Belles finished the tournament with a score of 1,318 after shooting a 326 on the final day of competition.
