College Celebrates Martin Luther King's Legacy (The Observer) The enduring legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., is celebrated this week at Saint Mary's College with a series of events. Student Laura Early, president of the Sisters of Nefertiti,helped organize the week. She told the student newspaper, "In his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech he [King] said, ‘I have a dream that one day little black girls will be holding hands with little white girls.’ And that really signifies what Saint Mary’s does here: We’re here as a family, we don’t see skin deep." The recipient of the award is kept secret until the Commencement-related event. Kaminski was not only surprised by the honor, but also by her relatives who came from all over the country to celebrate with her.
