Students' Dance Marathon Raises Nearly $87,000 for Children's Hospital
What gets 400 college students to stay on their feet for 12 hours straight? Saint Mary’s women will tell you they do it for the kids. Dance Marathon, a fundraiser for Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, has taken place at Saint Mary’s College for nine years. Students started it and they organize every aspect of it, year in and year out. SMCDM is the largest club at the women’s college. This year’s event, held on Saturday, April 5, raised $86,765.70, bringing the total raised for Riley over the years to more than $600,000.

Grads Face Improving, but Competitive Job Market (South Bend Tribune)
The job market is making some strides. But will those strides translate into enough opportunities for 2014 college grads? Flexibility and the willingness to relocate if necessary can be keys to succeeding in the job hunt, according to Stacie Jeffirs, director of the Career Crossings Office. She's helping Lisa Soper '14 with her search for a teaching job. No doubt this year's college graduates will face stiff competition, says Richard Measell, assistant professor of economics Saint Mary's. "There are many graduates from the past several years who are still seeking a job, or trying to find a better job."

Saint Mary’s College is pleased to announce that Sarah Gallagher Dvorak, a 1999 alumna of Saint Mary’s College, recently joined the College as the director of admission. Gallagher Dvorak has spent most of her professional life in academic settings across the country in admission and communication positions.

Professor on Primary Results for 2nd Congressional District (South Ben...
The South Bend Tribune interviewed political science professor Sean Savage about Joe Bock, the new Democratic nominee for Congress in the 2nd District. Savage notes that Bock faces a tough road ahead in his attempt to unseat incumbent Republican Jackie Walorski in the fall. Add to that the fact the 2nd District has been redrawn to favor a Republican candidate, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee considers the race a long shot, and it's clear the odds are not in Bock's favor.

South Bend Chamber Singers to Share “The Beauty of Brahms”
The South Bend Chamber Singers (SBCS) will conclude its 25th anniversary with a concert entitled The Beauty of Brahms to be held on Sunday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Church of Our Lady of Loretto on the Saint Mary’s campus. Artists will include soprano and Saint Mary's College music professor Laurel Thomas, and baritone Stephen Lancaster, a professor at the University of Notre Dame.
