Political Science Professor on "Zero Dark Thirty" Film (WNDU-TV) "Zero Dark Thirty" is among the movies in theatres right now. It deals with the hunt for Osama bin Laden after the September 11 attacks. The movie is controversial because of the way the film depicts the role that "enhanced interrogation" techniques (what some refer to as torture) like water-boarding played in the process to locate bin Laden. Marc Belanger, associate professor of political science, saw the film and offered his analysis to a local TV station. Teen Writing Conference "Get Inked" Coming up (WNIT-TV) The Saint Mary’s College Department of Education will sponsor a teen writing conference for girls and boys grades 8-12 titled “Get Inked” on Saturday, November 16, 2013. Coaches working to "Play Like a Champion" (WNDU-TV) A coach takes on many roles for athletes - parental figure, confidant, and disciplinarian. But, there is a thin line between giving teenager guidance and abusing the role. This summer coaches from across the country attended "Play Like a Champion" training at Notre Dame. Overview of Medical and Forensic Examinations The Belles Against Violence Office (BAVO) at Saint Mary’s College, a women’s college, invites the public to a talk intended to educate and empower young people on the subject of sexual violence. This year’s theme is “everyBODY is…,” a phrase which can be completed using any individual’s definition of beauty. The goal of the week, held at this women’s college, is for women to learn to love their bodies and eliminate negative stereotypes, especially those that come from the media. Faller Named to All-MIAA First Team ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Saint Mary's junior tennis player Mary Catherine Faller was named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association all-conference first team as selected by league coaches. Communication Studies Professor on Online Relationships (Fox 28) The subject of online relationships have been in the news a lot this week. Jenny Armentrout, visiting assistant professor of communication studies whose expertise includes social media communication, sorts out how people who meet and communicate almost exclusively online may feel they are in legitimate relationships. "Singing Up a Storm!” to Feature Weather-inspired Music The South Bend Chamber Singers are proud to bring Singing Up a Storm! to the South Bend Christian Reformed Church, 1855 N.
