Getting to Know Valedictorian Allison Sherman '13 (The Observer)
Saint Mary's College announced the valedictorian for the Class of 2013 is Allison Sherman of Batavia, Illinois. Sherman, a computational mathematics major, said she was drawn to Saint Mary’s because of the professors’ commitment to teaching and the College’s small class sizes. “There is a strong sense of community and the personal attention that each student receives was very important in my final decision to attend Saint Mary’s,” Sherman said.

International Education/Modern Languages Week 2013 Plans Announced
The Center for Women’s Intercultural Leadership (CWIL) and the Department of Modern Languages at Saint Mary’s College will host International Education/Modern Languages Week starting on Monday, November 18. The public is invited to attend the events.

Thanksgiving as Day of Gratitude, not Black Friday Greed (WSBT Radio)
With the direction retailers are taking, Thanksgiving seems to be becoming "Black Friday Eve" with more and more stores opening on Thanksgiving night. Instead of stopping to consider what we have and being grateful for it, consumers may be thinking about what they don't have and want to get. Minority/Women Business Enterprises Certification Workshop Planned
The Saint Mary’s College’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), the City of South Bend’s Diversity Utilization Board and the Indiana Department of Administration’s (IDOA) Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (MWBE) Division are proud to co-host an informational workshop for minority and/or women-owned businesses interested in achieving certification as Minority or Women Business Enterprises (MBE/WBE). The event, called “Let’s Talk Certification,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 13 in the Student Center at Saint Mary’s College.

Saint Mary’s College Loses a Cherished Leader, Sister M.L. Gude, CSC
Saint Mary’s College is saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Mary Louise Gude, CSC, former vice president for Mission. “Sister M.L.,” as she was known, passed away Wednesday, January 9, at 7:55 p.m. at Saint Mary’s Convent at the age of 73. She enjoyed a rewarding career at Saint Mary’s and the University of Notre Dame that spanned four decades.

Class of 2017 is Largest and Most Diverse on Campus
The Class of 2017 at Saint Mary’s College makes a strong statement even before they arrive tomorrow morning. The first-year class will be the largest class on campus, with 441 women. It will also be the most diverse class in the history of Saint Mary’s College, with 23 percent (100 students) coming from historically underrepresented groups. The class represents 29 states and four countries, in addition to the U.S, including China, Nigeria, Turkmenistan, and Vietnam.

Liz Palmer '13 Recognized at Commencement with Lumen Christi Award
At Commencement on Saturday, May 18, a member of the Class of 2013 was presented with the Lumen Christi Award, the highest student honor at Saint Mary’s College. Elizabeth “Liz” Palmer received the recognition, which is awarded to the senior who stands out in the College community as an outstanding Christian woman. The recipient of the award is traditionally someone who has excelled in leadership and loyalty to Saint Mary’s and whose presence has had a profound effect on the College community. The name of the recipient is not revealed until her name is read at Commencement.

Saint Mary's Education Program at Work in Elkhart Schools (MNC Radio)
Saint Mary's College and Elkhart Community Schools (ECS) have formed a partnership to create a dynamic and sustained Laboratory School Network for the next three summers. The mission of the Laboratory School Network is to support learning for ECS students and the professional development for pre-service teachers from Saint Mary’s. Two ECS teachers, who are Saint Mary’s education alumnae, serve as the mentor teachers. Ten rising seniors in the education program or recent alumnae serve as teachers in the lab.
