Degree Attainment Soars at Catholic Campuses Like Saint Mary's (ACCU)
A new Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) report shows that students at Catholic colleges and universities enjoy more rapid baccalaureate degree completion than their peers in any other sector of higher education. Saint Mary's is highlighted as a college with innovative approaches to help students excel. The College recently unveiled its Four-year Graduation Promise. Starting with the Class of 2017, students who follow the Promise guidelines are guaranteed to graduate in four years or the College will pay for any additional courses the student needs to earn her degree.

Two Choral Events This Month Hosted By Music Department
The Saint Mary’s College Department of Music will host two special women’s choral events in late-November. The Fall Choral Concert will be held on Wednesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Laughlin Auditorium. The College will also host the 29th annual High School Women’s Choir Festival Thursday, November 21 and Friday, November 22 in O’Laughlin.

Dance Marathon Raises a Record $104,000+ for Riley Hospital
Saint Mary’s College students proudly announce that a record $104,374.83 was raised for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis thanks to Dance Marathon. That is more than any single year in the eight years of Marathons at the College. The figure was announced at the end of the 12-hour Marathon, which wrapped up at 12 a.m. Sunday in the Angela Athletic Facility.

College to Start Master’s Program with $1 Million Lilly Endowment Gr...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that Lilly Endowment Inc. has awarded it a $1 million grant which will allow Saint Mary’s to plan, seek approval of, and implement a unique master’s degree program. The grant is part of Lilly Endowment’s $62.7 million in grants to Indiana’s 39 accredited colleges and universities to enhance and expand opportunities for graduates to find meaningful employment in Indiana. The last graduate program Saint Mary’s offered ended in 1969.

Senior Class President Named Outstanding Senior
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Senior Award is Silvia Cuevas of Hammond, Indiana. Cuevas, the Senior Class President, is a business administration major with concentrations in finance and international business. She received her recognition at the Alumnae-Senior Champagne Brunch, which was held today.

“Down the Avenue” Raises $330,000 for Scholarship and Volunteer E...
Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that last evening’s Down the Avenue gala raised $330,000 for the establishment a scholarship for students who are active volunteers in Michiana and to support the College’s Office for Civic and Social Engagement (OCSE), which facilitates local volunteer efforts. It is the largest amount raised from a Down the Avenue event and the fifth time the College has held it.

Panel Discussion: "Radium Girls, Opening the Doors of Justice"
This panel will discuss labor issues brought up in the play Radium Girls, playing Nov. 7 to 10 at Saint Mary’s. The panel discussion, titled “Radium Girls, Opening the Doors to Justice,” will take place on Friday, Nov. 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Welsh Parlor on the second floor of Haggar College Center. The panel discussion is free and open to the public.

A great college or university nurtures the interplay of ideas, people, and places in ways that serve them all. The University Colleagues Collaborative (UCC) grew out of a desire to talk about the distinctive roles area institutions of higher education play in this “place” we inhabit. Communication specialists from seven local colleges and universities contribute weekly "Beyond the Campus" articles to the South Bend Tribune that demonstrate ways that students and faculty work beyond the confines of campus to make a difference in the community.

“Symposium on Women’s Incarceration,” A Justice Education Progra...
The Justice Education program at Saint Mary’s College invites the College and South Bend-area communities to attend the “Symposium on Women’s Incarceration,” a daylong discussion and dialogue about gender, incarceration, and justice. The event, which is free of charge, will take place at the Catholic liberal arts women’s college from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3 in Vander Vennet Theatre in the Student Center. Attendees may come and go as they please.
